New Faces and Places ...and a few Surprises

Location:  Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Friday, March 23, 2018
International students from more than 43 countries came together today for an afternoon of fun and festivity, to officially welcome a new academic year.

The Study Melbourne Welcome Party, coinciding with Cultural Diversity Week, brought international students together to make new friends and participate in a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS official attempt for the Most Nationalities at a Dance Party.

Held at Testing Grounds, Southbank’s outdoor creative space, more than 250 students attempted to dance their way into the record books.

The result was unsuccessful with 43 nationalities involved, just seven shy of the target of 50 nationalities needed by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS.

The Welcome Party was hosted by the Victorian Government’s Study Melbourne initiative to welcome the state’s vibrant international student community.

While the record was narrowly missed, the event provided a unique platform for Melbourne’s international student community to come together, celebrate their different ethnicities and cultures, and welcome the start of the academic year.

Melbourne is well known for its superior student experience offerings for international students, and is recognised as one of the world’s premier study destinations for international students with over 200,000 students from 170 countries.

Study Melbourne also announced the launch its new mobile app, Unlock Melbourne, and its newly-appointed Study Melbourne Ambassadors.

As we know, international students highly value peer-to-peer recommendations, feedback and advice and the Study Melbourne Ambassador Program will provide students the ability to engage with like-minded students and alumni.
